More News From Nineveh

Sorry I haven’t been posting regularly, but I’ve been busy with my book about Jonah.  I’m in the process of writing the last chapter, and I’ll probably add a chapter of historical notes.  After that I’ll be getting a book cover done and deciding whether to include maps.

Here’s a snippet from Chapter 4, after Jonah has warned the people of Nineveh of God’s impending judgement, and they had repented:

“Jonah didn’t know what to make of this turn of events, and he was furious.  “Please, Yahweh, wasn’t this what I said when I was still in my own country?  That’s why I ran to Tarshish, because I knew You’re a gracious God, merciful, slow to anger, abundant in loving kindness, and You relent from doing harm.  So just kill me now; I’d rather be dead.”

Yahweh replied, “Is it right for you to be angry?”

Jonah went to the Halzi Gate and crossed the moat on the east side of the city.  He climbed a hill so he could watch as Nineveh was destroyed.  He hoped God would rain fire and brimstone down on Nineveh as he had upon wicked Sodom and Gomorrah.  Those places had been idolatrous and perverted; here was Nineveh, the proud slaughterer of millions, deserving no mercy.

Stay tuned, and I’ll let you know how I’m progressing.
