The Super Bowl was this past weekend, and the cheapest tickets cost well over $4,000.00. Premium seats cost over $50,000.00 dollars. That’s a LOT of money for a ticket. And over 70,000 people made that purchase so they could see the game in person. Being there was obviously a major priority for these people.
What’s high on your priority list? A house in an exclusive zip code, a snazzy car, pulling down a big paycheck, a position of power, an impressive career? Jesus told a parable about one man’s priorities.
“…the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” (Matthew 13:45-46).
Everything we possess on this earth will become lost, stolen, broken, outdated, or obsolete. But the kingdom of heaven (that is, a relationship with Jesus) isn’t like that. He’s promised over and over again in his word that he’ll never leave us or forsake us. He IS the pearl of great price, and we’ll never regret choosing to make him our priority.
