The New You

In my last post, I talked about when Jesus died on the cross our sin debt was paid in full, and our salvation was completed.  But there are many people who aren’t experiencing the benefit of what He accomplished for them.  Even though they trust in and follow Jesus, they don’t just believe they WERE sinners saved by grace, they believe they still ARE sinners.

What does scripture have to say about this?  II Corinthians 5:17 says,  “…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”  Twice in Ezekiel (11:9 and 26:26) God says He’ll give us a new heart and a new spirit (His own Holy Spirit).  How may times do Paul, Peter, and John call us saints, beloved, and children; and remind us that God is able to keep us blameless before Him until Christ’s return?  Quite a few.

If we as His children believe we’re still sinners, present tense, are we in fact saying that what Jesus did on the cross wasn’t enough?  (Hmmm…)

I encourage you to let it soak deep into your heart that if you have trusted Jesus as your savior that He has in fact made you a new creation, and that you can start every day new with Him.  You’re no longer the old person who died (Galatians 2:20), but you’ve been raised in righteousness and newness of life.  When we do fall short, all He wants is that we would come to Him, turn from our failure, and follow Him as His child, walking in unmarred fellowship with Him.
