At Christmas everyone is thinking about gifts, wanting to make people happy with their offerings.
We also refer to talented artists, musicians, or athletes, for example as gifted, and we try to perform as well as they do. But it’s easy to get discouraged when we compare ourselves to them, maybe even feeling like we have nothing of any worth to give, feeling “less-than.” We’re holding a gift, but scared to give it out, afraid it’s not good enough.
God has given each one of us gifts. I believe that He created every one of us with skills and abilities to glorify Him, whether we know Him or not. But how much more for those who belong to Him, in whom His Holy Spirit dwells! He Himself is the gift, and His power is manifested through us when we use the specific gifts He’s given to us. Romans 12:6-8, 1 Peter 4:10-11, and notably 1 Corinthians 12 (the whole chapter) say there are many gifts distributed to us as God sees fit, for the benefit of everyone. It’s the Holy Spirit acting through us, and the apparent success or failure is His, not ours.
Please read these scriptures, and don’t be afraid to share the gift He’s given you. Like the little drummer boy, play for Him with all your heart. I’m sharing the video of the For King and Country version of the song. Let the words sink deep into heart, and share your gift.
