Well, the big day is fast approaching. Decisions made, votes cast, for good or for ill. Some of us will be pleased, some of us will be disappointed. Still others will be bewildered, afraid of what the future might bring. We’ll all wonder if the people we have elected to represent and govern us will actually do what they promised they would do.
Some people say that God is in control. I prefer to say He is sovereign. God sometimes lets us have what we want, just like He did when Israel asked for a king in 1 Samuel 8. He told them they wouldn’t like it when they got they wanted, but He allowed it. But at the end of the day, I believe He has the final say so. He can step in any time He likes.
Remember what chapter 2 of the book of Daniel says.
“Daniel answered and said: ‘Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to Whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him.’”
Whatever the outcome of this election, or in what circumstances we find ourselves, remember that God is still on His throne. Nothing surprises Him, and there is nothing that He cannot deal with if He so chooses. Our comfort is that if we have come to Him in faith, we are secure in His hands (Psalm 112:6-8).
